Blog Updates

It is hard to keep up with all the activities, the photographing, and the need to recover by taking quick naps! SO, I'll post to this blog as often as I can, but sometimes the posts may be out of order. In that case, I'll try to "post-date" them to fit into the timeline. This means - you may need to go back in time to see earlier posts, which won't actually show up until days later!

Day 04 - Vistas of Vienna

Today our tour of Vienna dropped us off at St. Stephens church. From there we walked to Cafe Aida for a coke, a nut pastry, and a bathroom break. The weather is delightful, and the crowds are plentiful! Auf weidersehen for now!

Day 04 - Making Apple Strudel

One of the many ship-board entertainments has been presentations such as this - a demonstration of how to make apple strudel! Chef Joey picked two people from the crowd and invited them to help. The process seems simple enough, and he shared his top secrets - like how to roll it up right! The crew helped out by passing out tea and coffee, plus a taste of ApfelStrudel. Enjoy! Day 03 - the Wheelhouse

For our full day of cruising. Viking has filled the time with mini-tours and lectures, such as a trip to the wheelhouse. The ship is 1.7 meters high, the river here has 2.2 meters below us (good enough!); the navigation is guided by radar, but GPS helps; and we'll go through 69 locks! Next event is learning how to make Apple strudel. 🤤

Day 03 - Bypassing Bratislava

We've had a wonderful morning cruise up the Danube, cruising north from Budapest to Vienna. At 7 am we went through our first lock, on of ?67?! Fascinating. Now we're cruising past Bratislava. Why! It looks fascinating! But alas one can't see everything. And now, I need to stop this email to attend a lecture on the coffee culture of Vienna! Better get a cup of coffee and head for the lounge. Lovin' it!

Day 03 Budapest - Hungarian Horsemen

The afternoon was spent in horse country at the Lázár Equestrian Park where we were treated to a spectacular show of horsemanship by highly skilled riders. Upon arrival we were greeted with pálinka, a Hungarian fruit brandy dating to the 14th century. After the show, we claimed aboard a horse-drawn carriage to see more of the park. Later, we met more of the farm animals such as the Racka sheep and the Mangalica pig. A tiring afternoon but well worth the effort.

Waiting in Munich

We made it to Munich, without too much trouble. But, eleven hours is too long! Now we wait six hours at Munich International. Here are some photos of the flight over: https://photos.app.goo.gl/6W8WdX6Zc9SWfezV6
