Today, Thursday, Dianne took another day of rest (though feeling better, thank you!), but Martha braved the weather and went for a “leisurely walk” (IN THE RAIN!!!) in Wertheim. I did manage to get a few good photos (and even found a mailman hard at work!). But, enough is enough, even for me, so I headed back to the ship after an hour (2429 steps). Now we sit in cabin 309 sipping a hot cup of tea, watching TV and writing online.
Today we arrived in Würtzburg on the Main River by 6am. Breakfast was at 7, and I’m waiting now for the 8.5 hour excursion to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Once we returned from the trip to Nuremberg, our program director Daniel invited us to meet the new staff and crew of the Viking Modi. The captain welcomed us on board, and we joined the crew in a champagne toast. Then we had another delicious meal, this time by chef Rodrigo. It was delicious. A delightful evening with family and our new friends Judy and Zena from Western Australia - and we’re ready for bed! We skipped the evenings entertainment - musicians from Franconia - and chose instead to wash out underclothes, write blog posts, and get ready for another day of touring. Some photos:
This afternoon we were driven into Nuremberg, as one of the included tours. Our local guide pointed out historical sites in Nuremberg, as well as the current uses of these buildings. Sitting in a bus it is still possible to get an idea of what a city is like. On our free time, we simply sat in a cafe and ordered a cafe macchiato and a gingerbread, for about 10 euros.
